I was able to sort this out after talking to Canon. I am able to transfer all untransferred images to my Windows machine through CameraWindow, but I would like to be able to transfer them directly to the cloud. Note that images cannot be sent only to Web services. Sending Images Automatically (ImageSync): Images on the memory card that have not been transferred already can be sent to a computer or Web services via CANON iMAGE GATEWAY.

One way to back up on the field is a portable photo drive but that's one more thing to carry and it's not cheap, can lose it, get stolen etc, however it works where there is no wifi. Other than that particular application I don't see the point vs doing it through the computer. For example if I'm away from home on a Trip in Peru for 3 weeks, I would want to back up those pics ASAP. The reason I was thinking about this is to back up my photos in the field. I was thinking about the same thing and I also have a Synology NAS, I wish DS Photo was able to connect to the camera but it's not.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I do now, but with different software My workflow is to review RAW+JPG on FastRawViewer, then upload picks from SD card to Lightroom, which stores on NAS.

Probably best to just stick the SD card in your PC as you say. You could use the device in the link to transfer your photos from the camera to the phone, which would then upload to the NAS, but I don't think that would be good because then you'd have to deal with the files on the phone. I'll have to see how slow that is for large sets of images and if there is a size limit. Send them to a cloud provider via Canon Image Gateway and then sync them down to the NAS. I wonder if there is a way I could do that with the Canon. Not perfect, though.Īnother way to do it is to have all your photos sync to one of the big cloud providers (iCloud, Amazon, Google, MS, etc) and then use the cloud sync features on the Synology to pull them down from the web to your NAS. Not sure if the login needs refreshing or what. It works pretty well, but it seems like every month or so it stops syncing and I have to manually kick off a backup to get it started again. It's the one published by Synology, DS Photo. Uploading to the NAS would be better than my present set up. Looked on App Store but what I saw didn't look promising.

I was hoping I could get my camera(s) to do the same. I never have to do a manual download and all our phone photos are just on the NAS viewable from any device. They run a Synology photo app that automatically uploads all our photos the minute we get home and our phones hit the home wi-fi. Maybe I can turn wake on LAN on my PC and use the Windows app to send them from the camera to the PC and onto the file share from the NAS.
I was hoping I could just start up the wi-fi and dump all the images to the NAS over FTP or SMB, but I certainly can't find a way. So I'd probably rather just do it via the PC at that point But, Once I make it down to the basement to plug something into the NAS, I'm there by the main PC anyway. Here's one I've been using that will also transfer files to / from iOS devices: But you could transfer files using an SD card reader. My old Synology had an SD slot, but they seem to have gone away from that. Not sure what your use case is, but since there is no way to get an IP connection to the camera, the only way to transfer files directly would be from the SD card.
